SSHHH – do you hear that?  Be very very quiet – I’m listening for the still small voice of God – isn’t that why we are here? Why do you come to church?  Have you ever really asked yourself that question?  Especially when the kids were young…is it really worth all the effort.  Will anyone even care if I’m (were) here?  Yes, someone will, and does care and we miss you when your not here.

I have been amazed this week by Norbert Wiener. He was a famous mathematician who also had a big impact on communication theory, weapons design, and automation. He graduated from Tufts University at age 14.

Though brilliant, Wiener was famously absent-minded. One colleague describes how he had stopped in her office to chat once or twice a week for years, then she moved into a different office. Wiener stopped by, introduced himself and proceeded to ask her about herself. He didn’t connect her at all with the woman he knew well in a different office!

Graciously, church members gave money far beyond my goals, and as promised, that excess money was spent locally. Thus, on Sunday, November 6, 35 members of Corydon Presbyterian Church joined the mission committee and myself at Save-A-Lot to spend the left-over money from Haiti, as well as money donated by the mission committee. Each Presbyterian shopper had the opportunity to receive $10 as seed money to spend on buying groceries for Harrison County Community Services’ food pantry.
