About Us
Who are we?
We are a grace-filled community of 250 individuals, seeking with
open minds and serving with open hearts the Lord Jesus Christ.
Where are we?
The church is located on state road #62, less than one mile west
of the downtown square in Corydon, Indiana. We are 25 miles west
of Louisville, Kentucky, one mile south of the I-64 exit. [Click

How old is the church?
Corydon is located in Harrison County, named in honor of William
Henry Harrison, who won the battle of Tippecanoe in 1811. Corydon
became the first capital of Indiana Territory in 1813. The church
was founded in 1819.
How old is the church building?
We have a beautiful, highly-functional facility that was completed
in 1995. It includes a sanctuary that seats 300, a multi-purpose
Community Life Center, a suite of offices for staff, and seven
class and conference rooms.
What is a Presbyterian?
We are one of the primary denominations rooted in the Protestant
Reformation of the 16th century. John Calvin is the reformer most
associated with our beginnings.
The word "presbyterian" refers to our form of government.
We are neither "congregationalist " (every church free-standing
and independent) or "episcopal" (overseen by a bishop).
We are a "connectional" church. That means each congregation
elects elders (the Session) who are represented at regular meetings
in the region with other elders and ministers (the Presbytery)
who meet with ministers and elders in the annual denominational
meeting (the General Assembly).
What is Presbyterian theology?
Presbyterians believe that chief aim in life is to enjoy God and
glorify God forever. We do this through worship and through the
practice of justice and kindness and grace. We call our theology
"reformed" because we are forever reforming, forever
wrestling with how to apply the ancient good news to new situations.
What stands out about Corydon Presbyterian
Church?
We are people committed to "seeking with open minds and serving
with open hearts." We have a reputation for pursuing social
justice and involvement in community service. We are grace-filled,
meaning we aspire to be, like Jesus, accepting and inclusive and
welcoming of all. We host community-wide "listening sessions"
on religious and social issues. "The desire of our hearts,"
as we say in the first sentence of our mission statement, "is
to make God's presence real in this time and place."
