Scott has been our pastor since
August of 2003. He grew up in Milwaukee and is still proud
of his Wisconsin heritage and the Green Bay Packers. At
Michigan State University, he earned a degree in biochemistry
and worked briefly in that field. As a Presbyterian Volunteer
in Mission, he taught English and science in Egypt for two
years.
It was a life-changing experience, deeply shaping his faith
and his world view. The powerful faith of the Egyptian Protestant
Church, as well as friendships with faithful Muslims, led
to his call to ministry and an ongoing commitment to the
Middle East and to building bridges with other cultures
whenever possible.
After graduating from San Francisco Theological Seminary
in 1990 with awards in preaching and general academics,
Scott spent a year in Morocco, teaching and working on Christian-Muslim
dialogue. On his return, he served churches in Ithaca, NY
and Kankakee, IL. Scott speaks Arabic, and continues Middle
East connections through an ongoing Egyptian-American dialogue
project, and our presbytery’s mission partnership
with the International Center of Bethlehem.
Education has been a continuing emphasis in his ministry,
as well as community involvement; interfaith dialogue; mission;
theology and arts (especially movies); and spiritual formation.
Living with his wife Candace and dog Django, Scott loves
hiking in the southern Indiana woods, as well as movies,
books and gardening.
